(Click here to get to the assignments page)
Confirmation class is a time of instruction (normally 2 years) where a young adult learns what it means to be an adult member of God’s church and understanding the gifts of God that were given to them in baptism. It is a time to grow closer to God by:
Actively participating in the worship life of Bethel
Learning about the history and the meaning of the Lord’s Prayer, the Apostle’s Creed, and the Ten Commandments
Learning and understanding the promises and benefits given in the Sacraments (baptism and communion)
Becoming more familiar with God’s story through the Old and New Testament
Deepening their relationship with Jesus Christ
These goals will be accomplished by:
Weekly classes on Sunday mornings
Being responsible for Scripture & Prayer (one time)
Attending a confirmation retreat at Inspiration Point Bible Camp (March 7-9)
Opportunities to serve others through service projects
Sermon notes (15 per year (September-May)
Memorizing God’s word
Keeping a regular prayer journal
The primary books used for confirmation class are the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism. The Small Catechism is a book of questions and answers that attempts to provide a clear setting of what is taught in the Bible.
Confirmation is an important part of a faith journey. It is not a graduation. It is an important step along the way as a baptized child of God learns more about their faith. At the end a public personal confession that this faith is their faith. A faith in Jesus Christ.
Luther’s Small Catechism was originally written and intended to be used in the home to teach the family the Christian faith and life. Parents are encouraged to go through the lessons and memorize the Bible verses with their child(ren) at home. If the student misses a lesson on Sundays a parent is responsible for ensuring that the lesson has been done at home.
Confirmation class will meet on Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:00. The last Sunday of the month the confirmation class and high school students will have a joint class together.
